< Back to News Home Huffmaster wins T3 class at Gingerman National

Posted (09/08/2007) - Huffmaster Racing set the goal at the start of the 2007 season to qualify for the SCCA National Runoffs in Topeka, Kansas. That goal was accomplished at the Gingerman National in style, as Rob Huffmaster led from start to finish to claim victory in the T3 class.

The weekend started off a bit shaky, as a large storm moved through the Midwest and and hit the Gingerman track in Michigan. The storm was so severe that it wiped out the power at the track until mid Saturday. Huffmaster Racing did not let the surrounding turmoil deter them from their focus. When it was time for Rob to go out on track on Saturday afternoon to qualify, everyone on the team was focused on the goal. And no one was more focused than Rob, as he placed his Huffmaster Racing Mazda RX-8 on the pole position.

In the T3 race, Rob faced stiff competition from Chad Gilsinger in a Honda S2000. For the 1st 1/3 of the race, the Honda was glued to the back of the Mazda RX-8. Rob was able to utilize traffic to his advantage to pull out a gap that he never relinquished. At the completion of the 24 lap race, Rob crossed the line 4 seconds up on Gilsinger.

"Gingerman was a great test for Huffmaster Racing. This track closely resembles the type of tight and twisty turns we will experience at Topeka. We learned a lot this weekend of what the Mazda does and doesn't like at this type of track. We are looking forward to arriving at Topeka to try some of those ideas out on the track, and hopefully get a leg up on the stiff competition."
- states Rob Huffmaster

Upon the completion of the Gingerman weekend, Huffmaster returned to the shop to prepare the Mazda RX-8 for the Runoffs. Rob Huffmaster hurried back home, as College started the Tuesday after the race. Along with focusing hard on his studies, Rob will be working out extra hard in the gym to be ready for the strenuous T3 battle to take place in a few weeks in Kansas.

"The #1 priority of the weekend was to qualify for the SCCA Runnoffs. Due to the National points system, it was necessary that Rob take the green flag for the Gingerman race. Once that occurred, then the pressure was off, and we could settle in and go for the win. Rob drove a great race. He is driving very well right now, and his maturity and growth as a driver since the start of the year have been exponential. I am exited about the Runnoffs. It should be exiting to go head to head with all the top T3 drivers in the country." - states Ray Huffmaster

The next event for Huffmaster Racing will be the SCCA Runnoffs in Topeka, Kansas at Heartland Park. The T3 class race will be at 10 am on Saturday - October 13th. The are 30 entries for the T3 class, ranging from Mazdas, to Hondas, to Audis, to Chryslers
